Essential measurements to designing a perfect kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of every home; it is where you prepare your meals, cook, bake, and wash, as well as where you store food and utensils. It must be well-planned so that all of these duties can be performed without interruption. Whether you’re constructing a new kitchen or remodeling an old one, utility should be prioritized alongside aesthetics.

Knowing these basic kitchen measures is a wonderful place to start when designing the greatest kitchen for you and your family. Understanding a few essential building measurements will help whether you are moving into an existing kitchen, remodeling an existing one, or building a new one. There are numerous dimensions at work in a kitchen, but to clear up any confusion, here are the basic kitchen measurements that you must know when creating your dream kitchen.

The work triangle

The work triangle notion was established to help people use kitchens more efficiently. This fictitious triangle unites three major kitchen work areas: the cooktop, the sink, and the refrigerator. Each side of the triangle, or the distance between these three sections, should be between 4 and 9 feet long. The spacing between these places is reduced when this triangle is used. Now one may operate in the kitchen without being hindered.

  • No kitchen triangle leg should be shorter than 1.2 m (4 ft) or longer than 2.7 m. (9 ft).
  • The sum of the triangle’s three sides should be between 4–8 m (13–26 ft).
  • Cabinets or other impediments should not be more than 30 cm from any leg of the triangle (12 in).
  • If at all possible, there should be no significant traffic flow through the triangle.
  • A full-height barrier, such as a tall cabinet, should not be placed between any two points of the triangle.

Kitchen countertop

The countertop is the cornerstone of a well-designed Modular kitchen. It is what keeps the cabinets together. A location where you cook, clean, bake, and store food. If one measurement is incorrect here, you will have to live with the discomfort until the renovation is completed. So avoid that and let us know the countertop dimensions.

Height: The usual height for kitchen benchtops is 900mm. This is the measurement between the finished floor and the benchtop’s top. If you and your family members are tall then, you could want to change the working bench height so that it’s between 850mm and 1050mm.

Depth: The usual depth of kitchen counter tops should be roughly 24 inches to enable convenience when working in the kitchen (2 feet). This can also differ based on the dimensions of appliances such as a gas stove.

Distance between the countertop & upper cabinet

18 inches is the normal distance between the top of a kitchen counter and the bottom of the wall cupboards above it. For the average person, this distance strikes an optimum balance between having enough space to work on the countertop and being able to access all of the cabinet’s shelves. The distance can be modified to accommodate people who are taller or shorter. In general, the bottom of the cabinets should be at least 20 inches away from the top of the countertop and no closer than 15 inches.

Over-head cabinet

18 inches is the normal distance between the top of a kitchen counter and the bottom of the wall cupboards above it. For the average person, this distance strikes an optimum balance between having enough space to work on the countertop and being able to access all of the cabinet’s shelves. The distance can be modified to accommodate people who are taller or shorter. In general, the bottom of the cabinets should be at least 20 inches away from the top of the countertop and no closer than 15 inches.

Distance between stove and Chimney

The chimney’s distance from the stove or countertop must be between 26 and 30 inches. The distance must be maintained is the same regardless of whether you have an electric cooking range, a built-in hob, or a standard cooktop. The distance cannot be neither less than 26 inches nor greater than 30 inches. Anything more than that will not successfully draw in the cooking fumes since the chimney will not be able to entirely remove the smoke, heat, stink, and pollutants from the room. Anything shorter than 26 inches can interfere with the use or view of pans and utensils during cooking.

As a result, to avoid serious effects and ensure the chimney works well, the distance should be kept between 26 and 30 inches.

Width of upper and lower cabinet panels

The first step is to divide the panels evenly, regardless of whether they are upper or bottom cabinets. The normal width of double door panels is from 30 to 36 inches, with sliding panels being 24 inches.

Refrigerator

The refrigerator should always be placed near a bench with plenty of room. This allows for quicker shopping loading, which means the door is open for less time, and when gathering materials for meal preparation, one can easily grab what is needed and place it on the bench.

A refrigerator’s usual dimensions are 30 to 36 inches in width, 67 to 70 inches in height, and 29 to 35 inches in depth. Make sure there is at least 2 feet of clearing space between the refrigerator and the walls, as well as 2 feet above it, for optimum ventilation.

Kitchen Island

A kitchen island is typically 80 by 40 inches in size, with 36 to 42 inches of space all the way around. The typical height of your island should be 36 inches, however it can be raised to 42 inches if used for dining. If you only want a breakfast bar, make sure the barstools have at least two feet of clearance.

A large island will look out of place in a small kitchen. It will be dangerous, crowded, and embarrassing. The minimum required size is approximately 40 by 40 inches. Even if it is tiny, such an island will provide adequate space for your integrated kitchen equipment as well as counter space. It’s important to note that if your kitchen is less than 13 feet wide, it’s best not to have a built-in island at all! You can also choose a peninsula. There is no need for extra clearing space on the fourth side here.

So now that you know all of the conventional standard measurements of a perfect kitchen. If you want to create your own kitchen, don’t be afraid. Still perplexed? Then get in touch with the best designers of Modular kitchen in Salem.
